Welcome to this article on Validation Settings in SharePoint 2013 and Office 365. Validation Settings provide a basic approach for assigning validation to our columns in Document Libraries.
Let’s see how to do that.
Here we need to specify a formula for all the validations, like for example if you add a criteria based on the created date like the case should be passed if the created date is greater than 01/01/2015 then that formula needs to be written in the text box below to validate.
There are plenty of formulas SharePoint provides for validation.
They can be found here.
Please Note: The columns shown on the right can only be used when you assign formulas. These columns will do something from the list so the look-up columns or variables can be assigned a formula since they will not be visible here.

Here you can write a message depending on the validation of the column such as what do the users require to do when the validation fails, so you can add that message here.
